Looking for Suggestions

So I was able to start running again (post peroneal tendinitis injury), but unfortunately things have not been going so well.   To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what the problem is and what to do about it.

I started out pretty good, and I played it smart and held back to easy low mileage and a slower pace to allow my body to gradually get into running again.  But after about 2 weeks, things turned.    My feet have really been hurting, which maybe that is normal for people who start up running again???  I don't remember:)  But then this pain in my ankle started bothering me.

Now I am stubborn, I know I should break down and just suck up yet another Dr. bill, and go see what needs to be done.  But.... That stupid stubborn part of me, keeps hoping it will just go away and I can avoid yet more expensive medical bills:)  As I would much rather save my funds for finishing my marathon goal:)

I have done lots of online research on this ankle pain, and I can't seem to find anything that really pinpoints to my injury exactly.  Which I guess can be good or bad.
Anyhow, before I break down and visit a Dr. (which I probably should have already done) I thought I would put this out there to my fellow running peeps, and see if any of you have ever had this happen, or know a runner who did.  If you do, maybe you can help point me in the right direction:)  Or push me onto the Dr.  LOL.  Because lets be honest, runners know their bodies and injuries better than anyone!

For my readers if you don't mind, here is my issue:
I have a sharp pain in the back of my ankle.  It hurts when I stretch it, like calf stretches or running up a hill.  It not only hurts when I stretch it, it also is a little tender to the touch.  It doesn't look inflamed, but who knows what is going on inside.  (I am icing and taking Naproxin, just in case.)
I thought stretching it would help, but that seems to only make it worse and then it throbs for hours after.
(Of course there is always the possibility this is tendinitis related, but I am just discouraged and unsure of anything at this point.)

So, have any of you had this, or had a friend who did?  Does this sound familiar or ring any bells to you?  If you have had this, or know someone who did.  Any suggestions on tips on what you/they had to do?

If no one has any suggestions, no worries:)  I will force myself to make a Dr. appointment next week if things don't start showing signs of improvement.
To my readers, thanks ahead of time for any input may have, and for stopping by my blog and allowing me to get out some of my discouragement!!!
Wishing you all, happy injury free beautiful spring running!!!!

  3. I have no words of advice other than I think you need to see a PT or MD. Best of luck that it's nothing and will get better in a hurry!

  7. Im wondering if your ankle isnt strained- like sports injury strained.. a good physical therapist should help with certain ways to stretch and pressure points.. i had went to one for back issues and the stretches and stuff really helped...I hope your problem gets better and you can go back to running!!

  9. Back of the ankle sounds like upper Achilles. Putting in a heel insert worked for me, while it was inflammed. Do not run fast, no speed work or tempos, until the pain subsides. Run easy.
Also, water is your tendon's BFF. Drink lots of it to keep those tendons lubricated.

    Hope it's nothing more serious.
